THUNDER UP

The Oklahoma City Thunder wins in triple overtime against the Memphis Grizzlies 133-123. What very well may have been the best game of the NBA playoffs, and almost the cause of a heart attack for me, took until 12:40am to conclude. The best part is we get to do it all over again Wednesday and this time it's at home. The best of seven game series just became a best of three and two of them are in OKC. Who would have thought that the Thunder would go from only 23 wins in the 2008-2009 season to potentially playing in the conference finals in just two years. Get out there and cheer for your Oklahoma City Thunder and help them beat Memphis!!!!!

Do energy star appliances really make a difference?

The short answer is yes. Energy star appliances do make a difference in your energy bill and for the environment. The Energy Star criteria requires that the appliances not only saves energy but that the increased cost of that appliances is offset by the savings. According to compare electricity rates , a website that does just that, Oklahoma is 23rd in the U.S. for energy bills. One way for the people of Oklahoma to decrease the rate of electricity consumed would be through the use of Energy Star appliances. Here is what the Energy Star site says about appliances:

"The average American family washes almost 400 loads of laundry each year. It's a good thing families can cut their related energy costs by about a third - and the water costs by more than half - just by purchasing a clothes washer with the ENERGY STAR label.

· Over the life of your new ENERGY STAR qualified washer, you'll save enough money in operating costs to pay for the matching dryer. With your water savings, you could fill three backyard swimming pools.

· Is your washer over 10 years old? Replace it with a new ENERGY STAR qualified washer and you could save $135 each year on your utility bills. That's like getting your High Efficiency (HE) detergent free year round

· Trim your utility bills - Do you have a dishwasher made before 1994? If so, you're paying an extra $40 a year on your utility bills compared to owning a new ENERGY STAR qualified model. Replace one of these old dishwashers with ENERGY STAR and save enough money to pay for dishwasher detergent all year.

· Save loads of water - A dishwasher built before 1994 wastes more than 10 gallons of water per cycle compared to owning a new ENERGY STAR qualified model. Replace one of these old dishwashers with ENERGY STAR and save enough water each week to wash 3 loads of laundry in an ENERGY STAR qualified clothes washer.

· Save the environment - Nearly 70 percent of U.S. electricity is generated by burning coal and natural gas, which releases greenhouse gasses and other air pollutants into the atmosphere, contributing to climate change and air quality problems. ENERGY STAR qualified dishwashers use less energy than conventional models, which helps reduce air pollution and combat global climate change. By reducing water consumption, ENERGY STAR qualified dishwashers also help protect our lakes, streams, and oceans.

Thanks to recent improvements in insulation and compressors, today's refrigerators use much less energy than older models. With an ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerator, you can maximize your energy and dollar savings without sacrificing the features you want.

· Slash your energy bills.
ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerators are required to use 20% less energy than models not labeled with the ENERGY STAR logo. Choose a new qualified model rather than a non-qualified model and cut your energy bills by $165 over the lifetime of your fridge.

· Replace your old fridge for bigger savings.
If you still have a fridge from the 1980s, replace it with an ENERGY STAR qualified model and save over $100 each year on your utility bills. Replace a fridge from the 1970s and save more than $200 each year! Use the
ENERGY STAR Savings Calculator to find out exactly how much money you'll save by replacing your existing refrigerator.

· Protect the environment.
Nearly 70% of U.S. electricity is generated with coal and natural gas, which release greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere and contribute to climate change. ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerators use less energy and help us reduce our impact on the environment"

Here at Dick Christman's Modern Home Appliance we believe that everyone

should do their part in saving electricity and in saving the environment so we

offer a large selection of energy star appliances at competitive prices.

The Kitchen Aid French Door Two Drawer Bottom Freezer model number KFXS25RYMS

•FreshVue™ Refrigerated Drawer holds more fresh food in more ways than ever

•Ramp-up internal LED lighting gradually increases in intensity and keeps the refrigerator brightly and crisply lit

•Adjustable glass shelves with Spill Shield technology feature a sleek design to help contain the largest spills

•ENERGY STAR® qualified, 30% more efficient than the minimum federal standard.

•Through-the-door ice & water dispenser provides quick and easy access to the automatic ice maker and chilled water

•FreshChill™ Temperature Management System helps maintain food freshness.

The biggest complaint we get about side by side refrigerators is the lack of usable space inside. The french door refrigerator addresses that very issue and still gives you the ice and water through the door.

Have you ever had a party platter or large dish and tried to put it in the refrigerated section of a side by side?

Have you ever been cooking something that calls for 1 2/3 cups of water but you can't find you measuring cups?

Kitchen Aid has the solution with two amazingly helpful features:

The largest fresh food drawer in the business ,30 inches wide by 20 inches deep by 6 inches high, gives you enough fresh food storage for even the largest platter.

The Kitchen Aid measured fast fill water dispenser gives you the option to dispense a specific amount of filtered water. If you need 1 2/3 cups for your recipe, maybe 20oz to refill you water bottle, or even 12 cups of filtered water for your morning coffee, Kitchen Aid has you covered. The fast fill measured dispenser rotates out so you can fill a cup, bottle, or even a pot for cooking with ease.

The best thing about the Kitchen Aid KFXS25RYMS isn't even the features it's the warranty. Unlike many of their competitors Kitchen Aid still has the same warranty it did 20 years ago:

1 year on all parts and labor
5 years parts and labor on the sealed system (compressor, evap, etc...)
10 years parts only on the sealed system

It's always refreshing to see a company that stands behind their products by providing you with one of the industry's best warranty

Product of the Week

This week's featured product is the Kitchen Aid KEBS208SSS Stainless Steel 30 inch Double Oven. This oven features true convection and an automatic conversion. There are lots of manufacturers that use tricky language when talking about convection that are cheaper, but once you know the difference I feel the choice will be an easy one. True convection requires a manufacturer to have a fan that circulates the air in the oven, as well as, a third hidden element around that fan. The purpose of these two items is to allow the person using the oven to bake three racks of cookies at the same time with all of them getting finished at the same time. The top rack won't be half way finished and the bottom rack won't be burnt. Using the third hidden element lets the oven cook 33% faster than a standard thermal oven. Also the next, possibly most important, feature is the Easy Convect conversion that Kitchen Aid puts on their ovens. Easy Convect takes your old thermal recipe time and temperature and automatically converts it to convection so that you don't have to go through growing pains and waste food because you didn't guess right. That being said the thing to remember about built in appliances is your dimensions. There is no such thing as a standard size.

The KEBS208SSS dimensions are:

Outside Dimensions

50 3/4" H

29 3/4" W

Cut Out Dimensions

49 3/4" H

28 1/2" W

•Even-Heat™ True Convection System provides consistent heat throughout the oven for even cooking on all three racks

•EasyConvect™ Time and Temperature Conversion System takes the guesswork out of convection cooking

•True-Broil™ Reflector concentrates heat, providing consistent and efficient broiling

•Closed-door convection broil with full and center settings provides high-speed, adjustable broiling for large or small quantities

•Self-cleaning system with soil level/time selection includes a quick setting for smaller soils, saving time and energy

•Removable temperature probe accurately measures internal temperature of meats, poultry, and liquid-based casseroles

•Bread proofing function provides a smart alternative to a bread maker and allows you to save valuable counter space

The Merger

Dick Christman Appliance was founded in the mid 1950's by Dick Christman himself. Mr. Christman quickly became the largest RCA/Whirlpool dealer in Oklahoma with his famous kind streak and his award winning customer service. Tony Ashcraft is the third owner of Dick Christman Appliance and with his business intelligence and a resurgence in customer service after 25 years as owner Ashcraft has merged two great companies.

Modern Home Appliance was founded in 1964 by Joe Young and his father as a way to provide for their family. "When we came here, we traded my mother's car for a delivery truck," said Young, 70. "We didn't have much." Modern Home Appliance has been a mainstay in the home building industry, selling appliances to builders for the last 26 years. Young was ready for retirement and Ashcraft seized the opportunity to merge two of the oldest family owned appliance stores in Oklahoma. "We haven't gone out of business. We've grown. It makes us a more round appliance store - ready for the next 15-20 years." Ashcraft said. Dick Christman Appliance has always prided itself on low prices and service after the sell.

Ashcraft, never being afraid of new technology, started the stores new website where customers can go to search product lines, email questions to the store, find our phone numbers, or even just to get directions to the new location. Dick Christman and Modern Home Appliance, now merged, needed a new name and it is Dick Christman's Modern Home Appliance. We still service most major appliance brands, excel at customer service, and have excellent prices on appliances like those from: Whirlpool, Kitchen Aid, Maytag, Amana, Frigidaire, Wolf, Sub Zero, Estate, and Crosley. So please come visit us at our new location 3431 N. MacArthur Blvd and meet the staff.
